In this article by Felicity Cole, the concept of the photograph as a three-dimensional art object is discussed. Using various artists such as John Stezaker, Julie Cockburn, Aliki Braine and Darren Harvey-Regan as examples, the author explains how their altering of their images challenges the categorization of their works. They combine a photograph with another media making the physical nature of their works more apparent. In this digital age, this is very important as photographs can be easily viewed on the internet. The physical nature of these artists works makes it so that for one to appreciate the full effect of their work, they must see it in person. This is extremely evident in Nathalie Hambro's artists books which can really only be fully appreciated when one is holding and turning the pages of her works.
